The Republican Party of Louisiana is expected to announce its endorsement of former Congressman Jeff Landry for attorney general today, snubbing incumbent Republican Attorney General Buddy Caldwell, Gannett Louisiana reports.

An 11 a.m. press conference has been scheduled at the party headquarters in Baton Rouge for what is described as “a major Louisiana political announcement.”

Though the details of the press conference aren’t specific, Landry campaign officials confirm to Gannett Louisiana the candidate will join GOP Chairman Roger Villere Jr. to make an announcement.

“Mr. Landry’s statements will be reserved for what he says in person (Tuesday),” a campaign official said when asked for a comment.

GOP executive director Jason Doré also declined to comment until the press conference today.

Landry has already secured the endorsement of two Louisiana congressmen, Republican Reps. Steve Scalise and John Fleming. He is also considered a close ally of Republican U.S. Sen. David Vitter, who is running for governor.

Caldwell has served as attorney general for two terms. He won his first term as a Democrat, but switched to Republican before winning his second term. Caldwell did not respond to requests for comment from Gannett Louisiana.

The 11 a.m. press conference will take place at 530 Lakeland Drive.
