The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality says the state has received $43 million to work on overdue wastewater upgrades and to fund “green projects.” The money was awarded by the Environmental Protection Agency and comes through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which Congress passed this year to stimulate the U.S. economy. DEQ says the money will be spent in 55 cities and towns in 42 parishes. That includes $1.8 million for projects in the Capital Region. The city of Baker is set to get $500,000 to replace inefficient water meters at businesses and install new meters at homes. The Livingston Parish town of Killian will get $110,777 for new water meters. White Castle will get $686,214 and Jackson will get $525,232, both for wastewater treatment upgrades.
