Louisiana Oil & Gas Association President Don Briggs is in an Asheville, N.C., hospital following serious injuries sustained in an accidental fall in North Carolina last week, The Advertiser reports.
In a statement issued Wednesday night, LOGA says, “Shortly after lunch on Friday, September 30th, while preparing the house for guests, Don slipped in the stairway sustaining a serious head injury.”
The statement says Briggs was airlifted to Mission Health Hospital, where doctors were waiting for his condition to stabilize “in order to determine the appropriate next steps,” LOGA says.
The association released a statement about the accident to its membership over the weekend.
“His condition is serious,” LOGA says in that weekend statement, adding that it would provide updates on Briggs’ condition as they become available.
In the statement, the association asks that friends and the public “give the family respect and privacy by not calling them so they can give their full attention to Don and the situation at hand.”
Briggs, a Miami native, graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1964 and began his oil and gas industry career with Owen Drilling Co. He also operated his own oil service company before taking the reins at LOGA.
