Lawmakers are holding a series of meetings around Louisiana to receive public comment about upcoming plans to redraw the state’s political maps. The redistricting meetings begin Thursday in Covington and run through March 1 in Alexandria. The local meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Feb. 21 in the Louisiana Board Room in the Louisiana Building at Baton Rouge Community College. Members of the House and Senate governmental affairs committees will explain how the 2010 census figures are requiring a redesign of the political districts, and they’ll take suggestions about how they should be redrawn. The Legislature meets in a March 20 special session to redraw district boundary lines for the state House and Senate, the Public Service Commission, state education board, Louisiana Supreme Court, state appeals courts and a U.S. House delegation that will drop from seven members to six.
