Though there were no changes in the Capital Region’s six largest privately held companies in this year’s top 100 list by Business Report, as measured by fiscal year 2014 revenues, there were some shakeups in the No. 7 through 10 spots.
On a 50% revenue increase from fiscal year 2013 to 2014—during which revenue totalled roughly $476 million—Cajun Industries shot up seven spots to No. 7 on this year’s list. Raising Cane’s retained its No. 8 spot on a 20.5% revenue increase to $447.9 million. And with revenue rising by 20.8% to $435 million last year, The Newtron Group moved up the list one spot to No. 9. Price LeBlanc, meanwhile, slipped three spots down the list to No. 10, despite seeing revenue climb 3% to $427.7 million last year.
To compile the annual list, Business Report each spring sends out letters and emails to all companies on its recent top 100 lists, as well as to those identified as possible qualifiers and those suggested by readers. The magazine also publishes notices on its websites, asking companies to share their data. Business Report then follows up with the companies to confirm the figures. In cases in which companies decline to voluntarily reveal their numbers, the magazine relies on public information to make reasonable estimates.
The six largest companies in the area remained unchanged on this year’s list, with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana retaining its No. 1 spot on a 9.3% revenue increase to roughly $3.1 billion. It was followed once again by Turner Industries Group ($2.5 billion in revenue, up 8.8%); Performance Contractors ($1.2 billion, up 9.6%); MMR Group ($816 million, down 14.3%); Associated Grocers ($707 million, down 1.1%); and All Star Automotive Group ($521.4 million, down 3.9%).
Louisiana Business Inc.—publisher of Business Report, 225 and inRegister magazines, as well as Daily Report and several other e-newsletters—is not among the Capital Region’s top 100 companies. However, the company annually discloses its own revenue figures because it asks other companies to do the same. In 2014, LBI revenue rose 7.9% to $9.9 million.
