Old signs displaying the Marriott name have been removed at the Baton Rouge Marriott at 5500 Hilton Ave. and will be replaced with new signage as more than $20 million in renovations take place.

Jamie Turnage, the hotel’s director of sales, says renovations that have been ongoing since December 2015 will wrap up sometime in the spring. The Baton Rouge Marriott has remained open and in business since the work began.

The old signs were removed this week so new paint can go up, Turnage says. Hotel officials are hoping that work will only take one week, but weather could change their plans.

The hotel’s owners—AVR Realty Co. of New York and Dimension Development Co. of Natchitoches—purchased the 40-year-old property in April 2015 for $21.8 million and set about updating it.

Turnage says guest rooms were expanded by four feet, and some even have larger windows now. Also, the more than 20,000 square feet of meeting space is being revamped, she says.

A new third-party restaurant is moving in, though Turnage says she cannot disclose the name of the restaurant at this time.
