Growth has largely been organic for Baton Rouge-based Envoc, but in 2017 the custom software, mobile app, web design and digital marketing firm intends to speed things up.

COO Jason Lasseigne tells Business Report in its latest Executive Spotlight feature that Envoc plans to not only grow next year, but also to expand its salesforce and move a little faster over the next 12-24 months.

“That said, it must be smart growth, and the quality of our work, staff and clients cannot suffer due to it. Otherwise, the acceleration is not worth it,” he says.

Envoc, one of Baton Rouge’s Best Places to Work the last three years, has grown naturally over the years.

“We have an exceptionally good client education manager in Nathan Arant. Between him and the client referrals we get each year through exceptional service, the business just grew,” Lasseigne tells Business Report.

Custom software, followed by websites, are Envoc’s bread and butter services. But Lasseigne adds that branding and design have picked up in the last 12 months.

Mobile app development has grown from less than 10% of Envoc’s business to around 25% over the last three years, he says, adding that these days having a mobile app for your company has gone from a differentiator strategy to a stay-in-business one.

Lasseigne says it’s not difficult to keep up with the latest trends in software, technology, marketing and advertising.

“Every Envocean we hire must be passionate about their trade; it can’t just be a job for them. Because of this, our employees find their work fun and spend time away from the office learning the latest and greatest,” he says. “We also give every Envocean the last two hours of the week to step away from client work and do R&D. Between dedicated R&D and personal discovery, we are always on the cutting edge.”

Envoc has been named one of Business Report’s Best Places to Work in every year it has been around. What’s the secret to becoming a Best Place to Work?

The secret really isn’t too secret. There are a few general rules to live by. First, listen to your employees and treat them like family. This is how you want to be treated, so do the same for others. You can’t fulfill every request that comes in, but you can at least consider them and communicate decisions openly and honestly. Also, it is OK to spend some money to make someone’s life better at the office. It may affect your bottom line in the short run, but in the long run it will be returned in full, plus some, with happy employees and clients. Lastly, be flexible and have trust. If someone needs to work from home an afternoon here or there, or wants to take daily walks, then by all means let them. Then trust that the work will get done on time and to the standards your company has set.
