After successfully operating the program in Shreveport for a decade, the Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations is expanding a training program for board members of nonprofit organizations to Baton Rouge.

LANO partners with The Huey and Angelina Wilson Foundation and Capital One Bank on the Community Leaders program, which will be offered in Baton Rouge in September through November this year. Training sessions will be held in the evening and will include topics such as roles and responsibilities of governing boards, fund development, financial management, and board conduct and procedures.

There’s also a philanthropic component to the training program. A $150 donation from participants for the training will go into the so-called Change Fund, which LANO says will benefit nonprofit organizations in the community. Participants—who will have the opportunity to be matched with nonprofit organizations for possible board service upon completion of the program—must also raise an additional $150 for the Change Fund. LANO says the Baton Rouge Area Foundation will manage the Change Fund.

LANO is a statewide member organization that advocates for the nonprofit community. It provides services to more than 600 member organizations and more than 13,000
