The Louisiana Supreme Court has denied a request for an injunction seeking to halt the state’s new voucher program, according to the Louisiana Department of Education. The decision comes roughly one month after the First Circuit Court of Appeal denied the same petition filed by teachers unions. Both the Louisiana Association of Educators and the Louisiana Teachers Federation had filed suits against the state. They claim the voucher program includes an unconstitutional use of the state’s public school financing formula to pay for tuition to private and parochial schools. State Superintendent of Education John White says in a statement: “The school year is already under way. It’s time to stop trying to prevent parents from making the choices they feel are right and start believing in the people closest to the students.”
