Louisiana ranked 28th in a survey that measured how much drivers in each state and the District of Columbia paid for car repairs. The CarMD Vehicle Health Index says the average cost of repairs related to the “check engine” light switching on was $347.46 in Louisiana. The national average was $356.04, which includes $212.44 in parts and $143.61 for labor. The “check engine” system is designed to let drivers know about problems that affect emissions output and drivability. Arizona had the most expensive auto repair costs at an average of $421.49. CarMD blamed the hot, dry weather on wrecking vehicle parts. The District of Columbia had the lowest repair prices at $265.29. CarMD based the data on a study of nearly 80,000 repairs made in 2010.
