La. first-time jobless claims increase

First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana for the week ending Saturday increased from the previous week’s total. The Louisiana Workforce Commission figures released today show the initial claims increased to 3,878 from 3,648 for the week ending Aug. 27. The figure was lower than it was for Sept. 4, 2010, the comparable week a year earlier, when there were 4,083 initial claims. The four-week moving average, which is a less volatile measure of claims, decreased to 3,763 from 3,801 for the week ending Aug. 27. Continued unemployment claims filed for the week ending Saturday totaled 45,201, a decrease from 45,463 the previous week. The four-week moving average for such claims decreased to 46,230 from 47,028.
