Koko FitClub announced today that it is closing its Baton Rouge location on June 25 if it cannot find a new franchisee to run the business.

In an email to current and former members, Koko FitClub President and Co-Founder Mary Obana says the Baton Rouge location is debt free and has a positive cash flow, but current franchise owners Debbie and Paul Baker “are simply unable to give the club what it needs to thrive, given their personal circumstances and limitations.” The email does not elaborate further on the Bakers’ situation.

The fitness club is located in Suite 104 at 12520 Perkins Road and was one of the first Koko FitClub locations in the country.

Obana says the company is actively searching for a new owner to take over the business.

“This is an amazing investment opportunity for a motivated owner who can see Koko to its next stage of development,” Obana says. “With your help, we can keep Koko in Baton Rouge and see it grow and thrive, realizing the full potential we all know it has.”

Koko FitClub opened in 2007 after Obana’s husband melded strength training with digital tracking to create a new training program, according to the company’s website.

“Our network of Koko FitClubs nationwide has grown and evolved in many exciting ways,” she says. “We’d love to find the right owner soon to continue to grow Koko FitClub Baton Rouge with these new improvements to give the community, the club and every one of its members an exciting path to success.”
