Officials with the proposed Knock Knock Children’s Museum are hearing pitches today from three lead architecture firms. Plans are to select a firm, probably by the end of the week, says Kristi Williams, a spokeswoman for BREC. BREC and Knock Knock have a cooperative agreement to build a 30,000-square-foot museum in City-Brooks Community Park. The three lead firms in the running are The Portico Group from Seattle, Haizlip Studios of Memphis, Tenn., and Cambridge Seven Associates from Boston. One of the requirements was that the lead firm have experience with at least two other children’s museum projects, Williams says. Haizlip designed some of the exhibits, which were released to the public in 2008. All three firms have Baton Rouge architects working with them. BREC is asking the state for $5.5 million to help fund the museum; the parks department says it will put up $3 million for the project.
