King rocks Phil Brady’s; ‘Metal Children’ at Swine Palace

Famed blues musician Chris Thomas King will rock the stage at Phil Brady’s Bar Saturday night, filling up the relatively small space with his sweet licks and deep voice. King regularly packs the house at larger venues, so be prepared for a crowd. For something in a different vein, the Portland Cello Project will be at the Manship Theatre Friday night. The group specializes in reworkings of modern pop and metal tunes by everyone from Kanye West to Guns N’ Roses. Tickets are $25-$35 at manshiptheatre.org. And Swine Palace Theatre is presenting The Metal Children, a darkly comic and thought-provoking play about the conflict between a writer and the community that’s banned his controversial work. Written by one of America’s most acclaimed modern playwrights, Adam Rapp, the play addresses an important question: to what extent is a writer responsible for the actions his words inspire?
