Gov. Bobby Jindal’s plan for tax reform is drawing a lot of attention from pundits around the country, to say nothing of the reaction it is generating around the state. Some love the general concepts of the plan the Jindal administration outlined Thursday, which include doing away with corporate and personal income taxes and raising sales taxes. Others hate it. No one, it seems, is indifferent. Esquire magazine blogger Charles P. Pierce refers to the tax reform plan as “a scheme … that amounts to a moral grease trap.” By contrast, the conservative Heartland Institute’s Steve Stanek writes that “doing away with the income tax should leave most households better off, and doing away with the corporate tax should make Louisiana more attractive to businesses.” To read more local and national reactions to the plan, click here.
