Though Gov. Bobby Jindal hasn’t been shy about taking shots at Hillary Clinton as he runs for the GOP nomination, he’s not about to criticize her cookies.
Jindal is, by his own words, a chocolate chip cookie connoisseur. As Jindal told The Des Moines Register last year, if he were to be stranded on a deserted island, he would choose chocolate chip cookies as his one food.
So upon his visit last week to The Wall Street Journal’s Washington bureau, the newspaper presented Jindal with a cookie challenge: Would he enjoy more the cookies baked from the official recipe of the Louisiana governor’s mansion in Baton Rouge, or the cookie recipe Hillary Clinton gave to Family Circle magazine in 1992 when she was a presidential candidate’s spouse.
“They’re both very, very good,” says Jindal in a video of the taste test after trying both cookies.
Jindal was able to identify the governor’s mansion cookies by their look, but he admitted he preferred the taste of Hillary’s cookies better.
“They’re softer, they’re chewier,” he says. “They’re both very, very good. It’s a tough choice.”
Shortly before the governor began tasting the cookies, a member of his security detail let slip to The Wall Street Journal, on the condition of anonymity, that the mansion cookie recipe as published online is not how Jindal’s cookies are prepared. As it turns out, Jindal prefers his cookies slightly under-baked, making them softer and chewier. The aide also says vanilla pudding is the mansion cooks’ secret ingredient.
