Despite state budget gaps, Gov. Bobby Jindal is proposing to renew several tax breaks for businesses, including one that gives companies rebates for creating high-quality jobs. Jindal made the announcement today at the Baton Rouge Coca-Cola bottling plant. Coke officials say they decided to build the $178 million facility on Plank Road because of the Quality Jobs Program. Also on the governor’s list are the extension of tax breaks for research and development and for technology commercialization and an expansion of a tax credit program for digital media and software development. Jindal says the incentives help attract companies and create jobs in Louisiana. The legislation will be considered by state lawmakers in the regular session that begins April 25. The proposals will come as lawmakers and Jindal work to close a $1.6 billion shortfall in the upcoming fiscal year that begins July 1 and make another round of budget cuts across agencies.
