Gov. Bobby Jindal will sign a bill that requires presidential candidates to provide a copy of their birth certificate in order to be listed on the Louisiana ballot. Kyle Plotkin, a Jindal spokesman, told The Times-Picayune that the governor would sign the bill by Rep. Alan Seabaugh, R-Shreveport, and Sen. A.G. Crowe, R-Slidell, if it passes in the Legislature. So-called birther bills have been introduced across the country because of lingering doubt about whether President Barack Obama was born in the U.S. The concern persists even though Hawaii officials have certified Obama was born in that state, legal challenges to his citizenship have been thrown out of courts and there were newspaper listings at the time announcing Obama’s birth. Plotkin told The Times-Picayune that Jindal believes the president is a citizen. Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer vetoed a similar bill that was passed by that state’s Legislature.
