Gov. Bobby Jindal, political strategist James Carville and musical guest the Temptations will be joined by Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education members Kira Orange Jones and Chas Roemer to kick off the 2012 National School Choice Week in New Orleans on Saturday. The event will be held 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Lakefront Arena on the campus of the University of New Orleans. It’s open to the public and there’s no cost to attend. National School Choice Week aims to shine a spotlight on the need for better education options for all children—from public and charter schools to private and virtual schools. Along with legendary Motown group the Temptations, slated musical guests include Ellis Marsalis, Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews and the Dragon Masters breakdancing group popularized on NBC’s America’s Got Talent. Dozens of schools from across Louisiana plan on bringing students to the celebration, and school choice advocates from across the country are expected to travel to Louisiana to participate as well.
