Gov. Bobby Jindal says even if President Barack Obama and Congress can come to an agreement to avoid the so-called fiscal cliff of tax hikes and spending cuts that are set to kick in at the start of next year, it “surely will not be the end of it.” In a guest column featured in Politico today, Jindal says the president and Congress need to address the nation’s $16.3 trillion debt by enacting structural reforms, or “next year it will be the fiscal mountain, after that the fiscal black hole, and after that fiscal Armageddon.” In the ongoing negotiations with Obama and Democrats, “Republicans certainly should fight to at least get something done that will matter,” Jindal says. “At present, any reading of the headlines over the past week indicates that Republicans are fighting to protect the rich and cut benefits for seniors. It may be possible to have worse political positioning than that, but I’m not sure how.” Check out the complete column here to see a list of policy recommendations Jindal provides those at the negotiating table.
