Jeffrey Jeter’s career has ascended along a path where health care and the law intersect.
After starting out investigating Medicaid fraud and other crimes with the Louisiana Department of Justice, Jeter decided to leave for the public sector, telling Business Report in the latest Executive Spotlight feature that he wanted “to be part of the solution to the problems plaguing health care.”
He joined home health care firm Amedisys, where he spent 15 years before departing as chief compliance officer. Last year, he joined Jones Walker, where he’s giving clients legal advice from an insider’s perspective.
“It is one thing for a lawyer to tell a client that the personal services safe harbor to the federal anti-kickback statute says x, y, and z,” he says. “But it is an altogether different endeavor for a client to hear not just what the law says, but the practical problems and opportunities that come with implementing the law.”

What are your hobbies, or your favorite things to do in your free time?
“In my free time, I love to write songs. I save snippets of new song ideas in my cell phone—whether that is some random lyric or a melody line—and then I spend months working on a new tune, writing and rewriting, and then recording and re-recording, until the song perfectly captures what I want it to say and how I want it said.”
