NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A former Louisiana congressman’s brother is asking a federal judge to consider postponing his trial in a bribery case.

Mose Jefferson, whose brother is former Rep. William Jefferson, has an Aug. 10 trial date for charges he bribed a former New Orleans school board president for her support in awarding school contracts to a computer-based teaching system he helped sell.

Mose Jefferson also faces separate charges in a racketeering conspiracy case involving his girlfriend, former state Rep. Renee Gill Pratt; his sister, New Orleans tax assessor Betty Jefferson; and his niece, Angela Coleman.

All four are scheduled to be arraigned Friday on the new charges. A trial for that case is scheduled to start Aug. 3, which would conflict with the bribery trial if neither is rescheduled.
