A pair of firms has notified the Louisiana Workforce Commission of their plans to lay off a combined 250 employees.
Jacobs Technology Inc. says it’s laying off 195 Louisiana workers on Jan. 31 because it failed to win renewal of a contract with NASA to perform maintenance and operations at the Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans. Jacobs says in a notification letter to LWC that it is supporting the transition to the new contractor and expects some of its employees to work for it, but did not specify how many.
Flint Energy Services, meanwhile, says it is permanently closing its office in Haynesville, which will cause the layoff of all 55 employees who work there. The employees will be out of work as of Jan. 15, the company says. Flint Energy Services, a subsidiary of AECOME, does not provide a reason for the office closure in its letter to LWC.
Companies are required by law to notify LWC of layoffs of more than 50 employees or plant closures. LWC says its Rapid Response team is coordinating re-employment services to all affected Flint Energy Services and Jacobs employees affected by the layoffs.
