With maximum sustained winds around 70 mph as of this morning, Isaac is on the verge of leaving behind its tropical storm status and ballooning into a hurricane that could flood the coasts of four states with storm surge and heavy rains. The storm’s current track has it headed toward New Orleans, on pace to make landfall late tonight or in the early morning hours Wednesday. Forecasters warn that the effects of Isaac could reach out 200 miles from its center. Gov. Bobby Jindal has set a press conference at 11:30 this morning in Baton Rouge to provide an update on the state’s preparations for the storm. Jindal says he will then travel to the New Orleans area to inspect the 17th Street Canal at 1:30 this afternoon. Read the latest on Isaac from The Associated Press here.
