The Baton Rouge Irish Club kicks off the city’s first film festival dedicated to the “land of Saints and Scholars.” Just days before James Joyce’s celebrated Bloomsday, the Manship Theatre plays host to a full day of events this Saturday. In addition to Irish dancers, live music, food and drinks, three feature films and several shorts will screen from 12:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are $8.50 for each feature film and details are at manshiptheatre.org. What else is happening this weekend? This evening on the Roux House patio, absurdist string band The Hot Seats perform Virginia-style bluegrass. The Myrtles are playing an all-ages show on the Shaw Center’s fourth-floor terrace, and drag queen Varla Jean Merman of Project Runway fame returns to her hometown of Baton Rouge to strut her stuff during a Sunday brunch at Juban’s to benefit the HIV/AIDS Alliance.
