Innovation, entrepreneurship take center stage this week as BREW returns to Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge Entrepreneurship Week is here, with events slated to kick off this morning at Scotlandville High School and Northdale Superintendent’s Academy, where students will exhibit small business concepts they’ve developed and sell items they’ve created from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

BREW events continue today with the University of Phoenix’s E2 Education to Entrepreneurship event at the Baton Rouge campus, 2431 South Acadian Thruway, from 6 to 8 p.m. Small business resources will be offered and a panel discussion on planning, funding and marketing a business will take place. Both of today’s events are free.

Among the BREW events on tap Tuesday is Rapid Rounds. The event, hosted by Business Report and the LSU Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute, will give participants a chance to hear eight local entrepreneurs dish on what makes them and their businesses tick during quick 12-minute presentations. Rapid Rounds will take place in the Business Education Complex at LSU from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $30 and are available online.

BRAC will unveil its 2016 Economic Outlook on Wednesday morning at the City Club of Baton Rouge from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Other BREW events on Wednesday include MetroMorphosis’ Failure Fest, which will provide an opportunity for local entrepreneurs to learn from failed projects and to increase risk-taking by reducing the stigma around failure. The free event is taking place at Main Library, 7711 Goodwood Blvd., from 12 to 1:30 p.m.

Thursday’s events include both BRAC’s Big Think and the 2015 BREW Pitch Night presented by SeNSE. Big Think is a half-day event will include business success stories, tips for navigating regulatory hurdles, brand innovation, funding options to start or grow a business and more. It will take place at the Manship Theatre at the Shaw Center for the Arts from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Tickets are $45 for BRAC investors, $55 for others, and are available online.

The Pitch Night event has traditionally been one of the most popular on the BREW schedule. Area entrepreneurs ready to kick-start their business concepts will present one-minute pitches. Following their pitches, presenters will receive audience feedback and will be judged by a panel of local and national investor judges which will determine advancement to semi-final and final rounds of the competition. The winning business will receive $1,000, along with a package of services from local businesses. It’s all going down at Creative Bloc, 804 Main St., beginning with a 5:30 p.m. networking session. Pitches start at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and are available online.
