Republican Super PAC, which is based in Terre Haute, Ind., is attempting to link Mayor Kip Holden to President Barack Obama in a new TV ad airing locally, saying both have “failed.” Roger Villere, chairman of the Republican Party of Louisiana and a contributor to the super PAC, says the group is funding TV ads and sending out postcards to Baton Rouge voters. “A record number of people are on food stamps,” a voiceover says in the ad. “Poverty is crippling our country, and here at home it’s led to a crime wave. Violence and gangs have taken control of our streets, and Kip Holden has failed to keep us safe.” The treasurer of Republican Super PAC is James Bopp Jr., a prominent lawyer who once represented Citizens United and has been called “the man who took down campaign finance reform.” You can check out the ad here. —David Jacobs
