A new benefactor

Maybe the Tiger Athletic Foundation can work out a deal with LSU to provide funding for the rest of the university since the State of Louisiana can’t seem to afford to fund for higher education (“Who really owns Tiger Stadium?” March 31).

The budget quandary

The legislature has sat back on its collective heels for the last seven years and allowed Gov. Bobby Jindal to squander a $1 billion surplus without any opposition (“Will Louisiana’s lawmakers make the tough choices necessary to deal with a $1.6 billion deficit?” March 31). Now the legislators are all in a dither trying to outdo each other with silly plans to shift dollars from one pocket to another in an effort to look like they are being responsible. Where were they for the last seven years? The legislature is as much to blame for this mess as Gov. Jindal and they should be voted out.

They better all make getting the fiscal house in order their absolute highest priority (“Inside Day One of the next governor,” Daily Report, April 7). Unless the legislature shows true independence and courage during the upcoming session, they will probably enact a six-month budget that creates an immediate crisis for the new administration and legislature.
