GOING BANKRUPT

As a shareholder, I’m so disappointed in Barry Bellue (“Troubled empire,” July 7). We all thought we had a big winner, considering what he was able to do with Fifth Generation Systems. Plus the men of his family were both great friends of mine, hunting together, etc. Live and learn.

BARGING IN

Good for President F. King Alexander and Mayor Kip Holden (“LSU’s F. King Alexander, Mayor Holden mounting opposition to proposed barge cleaning facility,” Daily Report, July 9). The DEQ is treating this as a permit for a “minor” pollution source, but no facility that handles the kinds of chemicals they are talking about and emits the kinds of substances described in the permit application can be called minor.

THE REAL ISSUES

Find your stones, Baton Rouge, and stand up for what’s right (“It’s time to stop ignoring our shortcomings,” July 7). Church isn’t a growth industry, so when you arrive at your desk on Monday, think long and hard about whether your business is inclusive and modern, or just another place where people wear uncomfortable clothes to charge billable hours.

SHOOTING DOWN ST. GEORGE

Why is Baton Rouge so against democracy (“Judge dismisses lawsuit by St. George supporters seeking to overturn petition rejection,” Daily Report, July 6)? Allow us self-determination. Stop holding us hostage. If the majority want it, we will remain part of Baton Rouge. But let us make that decision. This is getting ridiculous.
