This month marks the one-year anniversary of state tax credits for residential alternative energy use, and the benefit has placed Louisiana at the top of state incentives ahead of Oregon and Connecticut, reports the Web site, CoolerPlanet.com. “Right now, Louisiana has the best state tax incentives in the country,” says Stephen Shelton, executive director of the nonprofit Louisiana Clean Tech Network, the statewide industry trade association based in New Orleans. The incentive package provides property owners an individual state tax credit of 50% for single or multi-family residential installations of up to $25,000 each, and has inspired a leap from about five to nearly 25 active solar providers, says Shelton. Six months ago, Clean Tech and the Louisiana Technical College began piloting solar installation curriculum at LTC campuses in Lafayette and New Orleans. Shelton says the programs will expand this year. — Maggie Heyn Richardson
