Lafayette business and governmental leaders says the completion of Interstate 49 from Lafayette to New Orleans remains a top priority on both the state and national levels, despite a lack of funding for the massive project. The (Lafayette) Advertiser reports the comments came during a meeting today of the Acadiana Regional Alliance at the Petroleum Club in Lafayette. Eric Kalivoda, deputy secretary of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, says the 156-mile project has been divided into 14 sections. Seven of those are finished or funded, but there is no funding identified for a portion through Lafayette Parish from Interstate 10 to La. Highway 88, as well as Wax Lake Outlet to Berwick in St. Mary Parish. Kalivoda says the remaining unfunded portions could together cost up to $5 billion.
