The Michaels Organization, a New Jersey group that specializes in public-private housing partnerships, has purchased a seven-acre tract in Old South Baton Rouge. The organization paid $1.37 million for the land on West McKinley Street, currently the home of Charity Christian Center, in a deal that closed Friday. The land is right between Nicholson Drive and Highland Road. A Michaels’ spokeswoman says the organization had no comment yet on what it plans to do with the property. Michaels has been involved before now in Louisiana projects; the company rebuilt 425 affordable housing units in New Orleans East after Hurricane Katrina.
