Louisiana lawmakers are taking up the question of firearms on college campuses. The House Criminal Justice Committee is scheduled to consider a bill today that would allow holders of concealed handgun permits to possess their weapons on campus. Colleges and universities now have the power to prohibit the guns. The sponsor of the bill, Rep. Ernest Wooton, a Belle Chasse Republican, scrapped the proposal last year amid strong opposition from higher education groups. The National Rifle Association is a supporter of the measure.
