As his house arrest ends Wednesday, former Gov. Edwin Edwards isn’t planning for a quiet retirement. He’s readying for his third wedding, a book tour and a grand coming-out and 84th birthday party at the end of the month. He’s even in talks for a possible reality TV show. Edwards has already lined up one event to take place soon after his freedom is restored. He’ll sign copies of his authorized biography at the CitiPlace Barnes & Noble beginning at 2 p.m. July 16. Edwards will be on hand with Leo Honeycutt, who wrote the book. The popularity of the four-term former governor shows no sign of ebbing. A new Facebook page Edwards launched only a few weeks ago quickly received thousands of “friends,” including voters who say they wish he could run again. Edwards will end his home confinement by filling out paperwork at the halfway house where he’s been reporting since January. He’ll be on probation for three years. Edwards served eight years in prison for a scheme to rig riverboat casino licenses.
