LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu, better known as the “Honey Badger,” is increasingly being talked about as a viable candidate for the Heisman Trophy—and the 5-9, 180-pound sophomore says that’s been one of his aims all season. “Absolutely I want to win the Heisman Trophy,” Mathieu was quoted as saying late last week before his six-tackle, one-interception performance against Florida. “People ask me all the time: ‘Aren’t you afraid of all the Heisman hype that’s building?’ I’m not afraid of it at all. I take it as a big compliment, and honestly, it was a goal of mine to be in all that Heisman talk.” ESPN’s Experts’ Poll on its Heisman Watch website here has Mathieu ranked ninth on its list of top 10 Heisman candidates.
