The cumulative take for Baton Rouge’s two riverboat casinos was down about 412,000 in November, or 2.8%, compared to winnings in same month a year ago. Hollywood Casino posted a 3.1% increase in winnings, or about $281,000, according to figures compiled by the Louisiana State Police and released by the state’s Gaming Control Board. The Belle of Baton Rouge, however, raked in 12.8% less on the month, or roughly $693,000. November marked the second straight month that The Belle saw year-over-year declines on the month. In October, the casino attributed the decline to an ongoing $7 million renovation at the casino that kicked off that month and is expected to be complete by Christmas. A spokesperson says the renovation has closed parts of the casino, leading to fewer winnings, but adds that numbers should be back on track early next year. The state’s 13 riverboat casinos collectively posted a scant 0.2% increase in winnings—or approximately $302,000, to a total of $124.3 million—in November over last year. Louisiana’s lone land-based casino, Harrah’s in New Orleans, had a dismal November: Winnings fell 24.4% to just less than $21 million, compared to $27.8 million on the month in 2010.
