Mayor Kip Holden apparently was not happy with the Metro Council’s decision Wednesday evening to reject a request from his office to waive up to $10,300 in permit fees for the Knock Knock Children’s Museum at City Park that broke ground earlier in the day.
Museum officials announced today that Holden has personally donated $10,300 to the museum to pay for the permit fees.
“Mayor Holden’s personal gift today is helping us break ground on the final phase of our campaign to raise the remaining funds needed to open Knock Knock’s doors of learning,” says museum board chair Staci Deumite Duhe’ in a prepared release.
The long-planned children’s museum will measure about 26,000 square feet and will be built at City Park, just off Dalrymple Drive, across the street from the golf course. The project was first announced in 2010, and BREC is a partner in it.
“The councilmen made it doom and gloom when they decided not to grant a $10,000 waiver from our departments to give to the people who have been diligently working on this community-wide project,” Holden says of his donation in the news release issued today.
