Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton is vowing to build upon President Barack Obama’s health care law and defend it against Republican opposition if she wins the White House.
The Associated Press reports Clinton told those gathered at a campaign stop in Baton Rouge today—her first in Louisiana since announcing her run—that she is “not going to let them tear up that law.” She says Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is hurting working families in his state by opposing an expansion of Medicaid under the law. Jindal has made repeal a centerpiece of his Republican presidential campaign.
Clinton is kicking off events this week focused on improving health care and cutting costs of prescription medication. The former secretary of state says she will try to cap how much consumers pay out of pocket for prescription drugs each month.
Following her event this afternoon, held at the Louisiana Leadership Institute on Hooper Road, Clinton will be attending a fundraiser in Baton Rouge that’s being hosted by businessman Jim Bernhard and his wife, Dana. As previously reported, tickets to fundraiser cost $2,700 per person, with a co-sponsorship level offered at $27,000 and an event sponsorship costing $50,000.
