With so much information and misinformation out there about face masks, we asked Baton Rouge General’s Dr. Rachel Brady to help bust some face mask myths.

  • Myth #1: Masks can cause carbon dioxide (CO2) buildup and make you sick. False. Unless you’re wearing an N-95 mask, you should have zero concerns about rebreathing CO2 while wearing your mask.
  • Myth #2: You only need to wear a mask if you feel sick. Also false. Some people who have coronavirus can be asymptomatic and could unknowingly spread the virus. By wearing a mask, you protect others around you and when they wear theirs, they are protecting you.
