Children’s retailer Gymboree is closing five of its Louisiana stores, including its locations at the Mall of Louisiana and Tanger Outlets in Gonzales.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the retailer is closing 350 stores nationwide as it restructures in bankruptcy. San Francisco-based Gymboree said store closing sales began on Tuesday.
Gymboree, which operates Crazy 8 stores and Janie and Jack stores, also is closing locations at the Esplanade Mall in Kenner, Mall St. Vincent in Shreveport and the Louisiana Boardwalk in Bossier City.Â
The company will have more than 900 locations after the stores are shut down. Two Gymboree locations in New Orleans—one at the Outlet Collection at Riverwalk and the Lakeside Mall—will remain open in Louisiana.
Gymboree filed for bankruptcy protection in June, saying it might close as many as 450 stores. The goal, it said, is a “right-size store base.”
The company would be able to focus resources on locations with the greatest potential and improve the profitability of the overall business.
Gymboree joins a growing list of retailers to announce the closing of some stores as mall traffic declines and competition from online retailers such as Amazon intensifies.
