After two years of design and development work, guides touting Louisiana as an ecotourism destination are now on the racks of tourism centers, says the America’s Wetland campaign, a group highlighting coastal wetlands loss. The “Travel Green Wetland Tour” guides lead travelers on four distinct routes—through the coastal prairies of southwest Louisiana, the Atchafalaya Basin, the bayou country of southeast Louisiana, and around the Mississippi River region of New Orleans and the Northshore of Lake Pontchartrain. The guides tell travelers where to go, eat, drink, and stay and cover more than 300 places to visit. “Around the world, places with far less to offer are garnering the profitable ecotourism market,” says Norman Marmillion, a Louisiana Travel Promotion Association board member who helped create the 96-page guide. “With so much attention focused on Louisiana’s disappearing wetlands in the last decade, people are curious to see us firsthand, up close and personal.” You can take a look at the guide and download a copy here.
