Lake Charles-based Patel Construction is set to break ground on the first Louisiana location of Home2 Suites, a Hilton Hotels and Resorts brand, in the next two weeks, with the aim of finishing the hotel by the fall of next year.
General contractor Pinu Patel says the 56,888-square-foot property will have 94 rooms and will be located at 10800 Siegen Holiday Circle, off Siegen Lane. The contractor recently acquired a building permit to begin construction on the hotel.
“The total project costs about $8 million,” Patel says. “It will be an extended stay hotel, and it will probably be ready to go by the third quarter of 2016.”
The newest hotel groundbreaking comes to Baton Rouge at a time when the Downtown Development District is pushing for a greater number of hotels in the downtown area, and just a week after the Metro Council rejected a tax increment financing deal for a Marriott Courtyard to help offset construction costs.
While the Hilton Home2 Suites, owned by Bankers Avenue Investments LLC, won’t be located downtown, it will bring something new to the Baton Rouge hotel industry with the new brand. Since being launched by Hilton in 2011, about 50 Home2 Suites locations have opened nationwide.
