Projects in East Baton Rouge Parish’s Green Light Plan for road improvements continue to come in below estimate, according to a first-quarter report from plan manager CSRS. The report says the plan has saved more than $8.7 million to date compared to engineer estimates. Because there’s less construction going on in other areas, projects are drawing three to seven bidders each, compared to one or two bidders similar projects might have gotten a year ago. The competition is driving down prices. The Green Light Plan is paid for with bonds backed by a half-cent sales tax extended by voters in 2005. About $213.5 million has been committed so far. Five projects have been completed, and six are under construction. The realignment of Pecue Lane at Perkins Road is scheduled to be let for bid on May 12.
