The East Baton Rouge Clerk of Court and the registrar of voters will be moving later this year out of their offices on the second floor of the Court Plaza building at 10500 Coursey Blvd. following Investar Bank’s purchase of the space for $1.63 million
The clerk of court, which has a main office downtown, will move its Coursey office to a new location at the end of the year. However, the city-parish is not actively looking for a new location at the moment because of the upcoming fall election, says Chief Administration Officer William Daniel.
The registrar of voters, meanwhile, will move about a block away from its current location to the vacant third precinct building, Daniel says.
Because of its sensitive nature, the registrar of voters office utilizes a special wired access system which ties it into the state’s computers. The system must be installed at the new location before it can move in, Daniel says, adding the work is scheduled to take place on Aug. 12.
The city-parish only owned the second floor of Court Plaza, Daniel says, and decided to sell the space because it no longer needs it. The Metro Council approved declaring the 120,343-square-foot space as surplus property in June.
Investar CEO and President John D’Angelo says the additional space gives the bank the flexibility for future expansion, though it doesn’t have any expansion plans in the works at the moment.
“As we continue to grow over time we’ll expand into that space,” D’Angelo says.
The bank’s corporate offices currently occupy the third floor of Court Plaza.
