Golden Corral Corp. closed on a roughly $1.5 million deal Thursday to purchase approximately 2.5 acres of land in The Greens at Millerville development at Interstate 12 and Millerville Road.

The restaurant chain will join Zaxby’s, Buc-ee’s, a sales and services center for The RV Shop, Richards Honda and a 320-unit apartment complex in the planned mixed-use development.

Construction permits were pulled last week for Golden Corral to build a new $1.3 million restaurant. Brett Furr of Taylor, Porter, Brooks & Phillips law firm represents the buffet restaurant chain. Furr says ground can be broken at Golden Corral’s new site any day now.

Golden Corral’s new 11,907-square-foot restaurant will be larger than its current 10,375-square-foot location at 5252 S. Sherwood Forest Blvd., where the chain has had a location for more than a decade.

The Sherwood location will close when the new restaurant opens. The building was listed for sale in June for $1.9 million.

The seller is developer Windy Gladney’s Appropriate Real Estate. Calls to Golden Corral for additional comment were not returned before this morning’s deadline.
