The first-ever commercial flight fueled with “biokerosene” from Geismar-based Dynamic Fuels took off at the end of last month. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines used the renewable fuel blend on its Boeing 737-800 flight from Amsterdam to Paris. The airline plans to use the blend on more than 200 commercial flights in September. The Geismar plant converts non-food-grade fats, oils and greases into biokerosene, which is then mixed 50-50 with conventional jet fuel. Benefits of biokerosene include reduced hydrocarbon emissions, lower engine deposits and a lower freezing point. Dynamic Fuels is a joint venture between Tyson Foods and Syntroleum Corp.
