Sunrise yoga isn’t the way most business conferences start out. But then, She Geauxs—which kicked off at 7 a.m. this morning with a yoga class on the LSU Lake—is not your typical conference. Rather, the event is the first-of-its-kind women’s leadership summit that is bringing together a diverse group of speakers and panelists focused on personal professional and community advancement for women.
The day-long event, which has been nearly a year in the making and is taking place as part of Baton Rouge Entrepreneurship Week, will feature 12 in-depth breakout sessions, two general sessions, and five panel discussions throughout the day to provide tools, resources, and networking opportunities to empower women of all professional and personal paths on their journeys “inward, outward, and onward.”
Business consultant and speaker Dima Ghawi, who conceived the idea for She Geaux and has been its chief organizer, opened the event with a keynote address. Breakout sessions on leadership and development follow from 10 a.m. to noon. The lunchtime keynote speaker is New Orleans entrepreneur and Fleurty Girl owner Lauren Leblanc.
The conference continues this afternoon with several panel discussions, including one with global business leaders, who will be conferenced into the event. Several local business women will also share their experiences in panel discussions about community involvement, early career decisions, leadership and owning your own business.
“So far it’s going really well,” Ghawi says. “We’re thrilled with the level of enthusiasm and to see women networking with each other already. It’s just going to get better as the day goes on.”
The event is sold out. Read more about this week’s BREW events.
