Frozen yogurt shop set to open Mall of Louisiana location

The first Louisiana location of the Menchie’s frozen yogurt chain should open at the Mall of Louisiana after Memorial Day. The California-based chain has become popular with the young Hollywood crowd: Miley Cyrus and Paris Hilton have both been photographed eating there. Micah Moore, one of the owners of the local franchise, says Menchie’s offers self-service “guilt-free” desserts. Customers fill up a cup or cone with any one of a dozen frozen yogurt flavors, select any one of about 40 toppings, including fresh local fruit, cookies, sprinkles or flavored syrup, and pay by the weight of the dish. Menchie’s will be in The Boulevard in the same building as Sake Café and Tiger Mania. Plans are in the works to open an LSU area location next year, Moore says, along with stores in Covington, Lafayette and New Orleans.—Timothy Boone
