Freshjunkie, the salad restaurant chain with two downtown locations, has launched a salad subscription service, whereby customers can subscribe online for weekly salad deliveries to their homes or offices. Freshjunkie owner Pat Fellows has been working on the new service for much of the past year, trying to find the most effective online platform for customers. He began testing the service last fall, and began promoting it earlier this month to customers throughout the metro area.

Fellows, an advocate of healthful living and a local promoter and organizer of races, says he decided to branch out into the delivery service because of growing demand for healthy food choices and the relative lack of options around the area.

“A lot of people are stuck in their office at lunch and can’t get out or may not have many good alternatives near their place of business,” he says. “We think there’s a real need for it.”

To subscribe to the service, customers pay monthly and receive between three and eight salads per month, which they can custom order or order from the Freshjunkie menu. The salads are delivered every Monday or Tuesday.

Fellows opened Freshjunkie in the Main Street Market in 2007, and expanded to a second location at 303 North Blvd. in 2014. Earlier this year, the North Boulevard restaurant branched out into the breakfast business, following the closure of nearby CC’s Coffee House. Sales of the coffee and breakfast tacos at the location are doing well so far, Fellows says.

Since Freshjunkie opened, a second salad restaurant, The Salad Shop, has also opened in Baton Rouge. It has two locations on Perkins Road and Coursey Boulevard, and continues to see growth, according to owner Bradley Sanchez.
