All four major candidates running for governor will appear in Baton Rouge on Saturday at a forum hosted by the Louisiana State Troopers Association. The forum, which will focus on public safety issues relating to the state police, will coincide with the LSTA 43rd Annual Convention being held at the Crowne Plaza hotel beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
Moderated by Lt. Col. Mark Oxley, a retired Louisiana State Police chief of staff, the forum will include three questions related to State Police operations. The candidates—Republicans Scott Angelle, Jay Dardenne and David Vitter, and Democrat John Bel Edwards—will also have an opportunity to provide opening and closing remarks.
Saturday’s event will follow another candidate forum being held in Baton Rouge on Thursday, which will not include Vitter, who has said he is unable to attend. Hosted by AARP Louisiana, the Louisiana Association for Councils on Aging Directors and the Louisiana Aging Network, the focus of the Thursday’s forum will be issues affecting adults aged 50 and older, including health care and transportation. WAFB anchor Donna Britt will moderate.
Thursday’s forum begins at noon at the Marriott Hotel, 5500 Hilton Drive. AARP members and supporters of the councils have been invited to attend, but seating is limited and an RSVP is required. Register to attend.
